Proxies and tools to unblock and access ThePirate Bay.org in India

ThePirate Bay seems to be blocked in India, again. This time, India is not alone, though – a number of ISPs in various countries, especially those in EU (England, Italy, France etc) have been asked by courts to block the world’s most (in)famous torrent website.

Visitors get a “This site has been blocked as per instructions from Department of Telecom (DOT)” message now.

Here are some easy ways to unblock and access Pirate Bay – including a mirror website that does not even require you to install any fancy software or configure proxies.

The Pirate Party in UK have set up a proxy for Pirate bay at https://tpb.pirateparty.org.uk/ and it works flawlessly.

Traditional methods, like proxies can also be used to access Pirate Bay, but the problem is that the website is already blocked in countries where some proxy sites are also located.

You can also use Tor, an anonyity network. Head over to the Tor project page to learn more and start using it. One problem with Tor is that it is inherently slow (due to routing your traffic through many nodes), so if you are on a slow connection, you might want to avoid Tor.

Another method could be using Ultra Surf. I have already made a post regarding it usage. Check it out Anonymous Surfing-Hide your real IP-Ultra surf.

You can also use VPN services but either they are paid service or if free they impose restrictions.  VPN Reactor, for example, provides free VPN services restricted to 30 minutes per session. To browse and download a typical torrent, it takes only a few minutes, so this should be enough for your Pirate Bay needs.

Various users are reporting that The Pirate Bay has been blocked in India. Users of nation-wide providers like Airtel, Tata, Sify and even public sector ISPs like BSNL have reported that The Pirate Bay is inaccessible.
